The purpose of the project is to create a unique city for an art that is regaining momentum amongst millennials. An art that is more popular that it has ever been before.  A school for the art of tattooing. Our idea is to create a building where the line between public and private space is blurred. We want to use architecture to create an intimate space for tattoo lovers.

We consider our approach to the project to be a modest one – we give away some size luxuries in exchange for quality space.  We believe that giving a public space to a part of the city that is so crowded by traffic is a sensible thing to do. This is why we make the bold decision of burying the building. It isolates us from the heavy traffic and it allows us to create a parallel world that would likely become a symbol for tattoo artists.

We deconstruct the program and divide it around a “medieval street” that functions as an open space where expositions, gatherings, and talks will be held.

The arena is surrounded by rectangular moldings that will hold the program: a coffee shop that functions as a reception point, a gallery and presentation venue, four private workshops and three guest rooms that can accommodate up to six people.

The entrance of every private space is made by one of the corners in order to create a cave-like environment.

Workshops are divided in three main areas by two perpendicular walls. These areas are: a waiting room, the main area and a private space for the tattoo artist’s sketches.

Guest houses are also divided in three areas. A sleeping area, a bathroom and a private changing room.
